Training – General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
What is the GDPR?
The GDPR (or GDPR) is the General Data Protection Regulation, a new European regulation aimed at strengthening the data protection regime for bodies operating in the European Union (EU) and processing the personal data of European residents.
GDPR therefore consists of protecting the personal data of employees, customers and others. By the same token, it introduces a notification obligation for bodies dealing with the processing of personal data. In the event of non-compliance with these Regulations, these bodies will be liable to heavy fines and a compromised reputation. Considering that personal data represent critical and sensitive information that all organizations must protect, such regulation will be helpful in establishing appropriate procedures and controls to prevent violations of information security. By May 2018, all bodies operating in the EU will have to comply with this regulation.
Why is the General Data Protection Regulation important to you?
As data breaches have become very frequent in recent years, the need for protection has also increased.
Information security is crucial to the progress of any organization as it manages the protection of sensitive data against unauthorized access, use, reproduction and destruction. It is therefore in the interest of companies to comply, especially as contraventions can rise to up to 2% of annual turnover. In addition, in case of a more serious infringement, fines can reach 4% of an organisation's annual turnover. On the other hand, the implementation of a privacy framework will enable professionals to develop and implement generally accepted reliable controls. Another obligation of the GDPR is the appointment of a DPO (Data Protection Officer) within any body, from public institutions to private companies dealing with the processing of personal data.
Become a certified Data Protection Officer will allow you to acquire the expertise necessary to understand the risks that could have a negative impact on your organization and implement the required strategic responses based on the best practices, requirements and principles of the GDPR.
